Chimney Rock Campground has some of the nicest campsites along side the bluffs of the Upper Iowa River – some are right in the middle of the action by the riverfront, others are nestled back into the forest for a touch of privacy, and some are settled in our beautiful meadows — perfect for stunning stargazing at night. Great for premiere getaways in Iowa for friends or family get togethers.

We get that we are stewards of this place that means so much to so many. While most of our guests come year after year and love this place – we don’t take this for granted. However, we feel it is important to set expectations ahead of time to make sure your stay at Chimney Rock is the right fit for you!
PLANS CHANGE | From time-to-time unforeseen circumstances arise, and sometimes we need to change plans around here. We aim to make sure if things change for our guests, you will receive an equal or upgraded experience as a result. We appreciate your patience with us!
Yep, this is a resort-style campground—so you won’t be all alone out here. You’ll have neighbors, and most folks are here for the same reason: to enjoy the outdoors and unwind. If there’s ever a hiccup with another group, don’t hesitate to give us a holler—we’re happy to step in and help.
We’re nestled in the woods, not way out in the boonies, so every now and then you might hear a bit of road noise or the sounds of nearby campers. Our sites aren’t packed in like sardines, but they’re not miles apart either—just enough space to feel like you’ve got your own slice of nature.
We figure the tradeoff is worth it: comfy amenities, river fun right out your door, and easy access to some pretty cool adventures.
Quiet hours run from 10 PM to 8 AM, so everyone—from big families to quiet couples—can enjoy the calm and stillness of the woods after dark.
WE’RE NOT A HOTEL
We’re a private campground, not a hotel—so things are a bit more hands-on here, and we appreciate your help before check-out.
For our cabin guests, we provide clean packs of sheets folded on top of the beds and dish towels for your stay. If you use the sheets, we kindly ask that you strip the beds before you leave so we can get them freshened up quickly for the next folks.
We also ask that you wash any dishes you’ve used—we’ve stocked each cabin with dish soap and towels to make it easy.
These small efforts go a long way in helping our team keep everything clean, cozy, and ready for the next round of campers. Thanks for doing your part!
GLAMPING… BUT STILL CAMPING
Our glamping setups come with some great comforts, but at heart, this is still camping. That means you’ll likely see (and hear) the usual nature stuff—like bugs, critters, and the occasional curious animal. Don’t worry—they keep to themselves.
Our cabins and tents don’t have bathrooms or running water inside. Since we’ve nestled them as close to the river as possible for those unbeatable views, we can’t run plumbing out that far.
You’re welcome to bring your own water, and we also provide a fillable jug for convenience. Potable water is available at the water station, located between the restrooms in the bathhouse.
It’s a little rustic, a little cozy, and a lot beautiful
CAMPING BATHHOUSE IS SHARED | If you’re looking for a dedicated camping bathroom never used by other guests, Chimney Rock isn’t the right fit for you. Our campground has a shared public bathhouse with four bright, private bathrooms — we clean it 2 times daily. But sometimes guests aren’t as respectful as others in leaving it as clean as they found it. We thought about strapping a staff person to the bathhouse to clean it on demand, but decided against it for a number of reasons. BUT if the bathhouse does need extra attention between cleanings, you can reach us on the ring camera, and we will send someone to assist you.
PLEASE PUT THINGS BACK WHERE THEY BELONG
We kindly ask all guests to return items to where they found them, and in the same condition.
Parents – we’d appreciate your help reminding kids to put away balls, yard games, beach toys, and non-motorized watercraft when they’re done.
Kids – be awesome and help your parents tidy up the cabin or glamping site before you head out.
A little teamwork goes a long way in keeping Chimney Rock great for the next campers!
ENJOY THE BREEZE
Some of our units have air conditioning, and some don’t—so be sure to check what’s included before you book.
Part of the charm here is soaking up the fresh air, shade, and natural breeze… but if A/C is a must for you, just double-check your unit’s amenities ahead of time.
FAMILY FRIENDLY PLACE We do our best to keep Chimney Rock welcoming and fun for all ages—kids, adults, and everyone in between (because grown-ups need to unwind too!).
That said, we ask that parents please keep an eye on their little ones and not let young kids roam the resort unsupervised. Safety comes first, and we appreciate your help.
We don’t have a playground just yet, but it’s high on our to-do list. Thanks for your patience as we work toward making Chimney Rock even more family-friendly.
WE’RE HERE TO HELP | Our small team is working hard to make sure this place is top notch – but if you ever run into an issue let us know right away so we can make it right! If we don’t know about it we can’t help. And if you have any ideas on how to improve, let us know and we will add it to the list!
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY…And last but not least, you are contractually obligated on telling the owners where and how you caught your fish! 😉
