During the spring, summer, and fall months Chimney Rock Campground is in a beautiful wilderness area, just waiting to be played in.
Spring at Chimney Rock offers a chance to catch a glimpse of a doe and her fawns and enjoy the vibrant display of wildflowers across the property. If you’re a forager or mushroom enthusiast, you’re in the right place — morels, puffballs, oysters, and other varieties can often be found right on the campground. With a bit of luck, you might even spot our returning pair of Sandhill Cranes. Plus, May and early June bring some of the best fishing conditions on the Upper Iowa River.
Summer transforms the forest into a lush green canopy, with soft trails and vibrant foliage all around. Just minutes away, you’ll find popular hiking paths and beautiful waterfalls to explore. Mountain bikers and hikers can enjoy miles of marked trails nearby — and don’t miss the chance to experience the Upper Iowa River, recognized as one of the most scenic rivers in the country.
Mother nature paints her best colors near the end of September and early October, so don’t forget your camera in the fall! Tens of thousands of people come to see exceptional fall foliage. Hunters have easy access to huge expanses of deer, grouse and small game territory. Fishing is again superior – anglers abound! For Area Events, https://visitdecorah.com/events/.
